Time Bomb explodes in Gamatui girls SS as Students strike demanding exit of the Headteacher

In a turn of events, students of Gamatui girls secondary school in Kapchorwa district went on a strike on Sunday evening destroying some of the school properties.

The incident happened on Sunday at about 5-6 pm.

According to the information obtained by this publication , the strike followed the detention of two boys from Kapteret who had allegedly gone to visit one of the students in the school.

It’s alleged that, the watchmen who were on duty on Sunday were informed by one of the parents who knew the boy of being a criminal who decided to arrest the boy and the friend despite introducing himself as the brother to one of S.3 students at school.

Despite efforts for him to explaining himself, the watchmen decided to arrest him. The student whose boyfriend had been arrested is alleged to have approached the watchmen to release the boy but became hesitant.

The student went back and informed the colleagues of what had transpired angering them.

The students then went to demand for the release of the boy which the watchmen refused.

Following the heated argument, the students resorted to striking and breaking some of the S.3 dometory windows while chanting the head teacher Mrs Justin Yesho must leave the school.

It’s also alleged that the priest, Father Raymond survived being beaten by the students as he came to try to calm the students down if not the intervention of some teachers.

The police from Sipi police station were informed who managed to quell the strike.

The two boys were taken to Sipi police station for criminal trespass.

Speaking to the OC Sipi police station Franco Obura, he confirmed the arrest of the two boys and stated that they are being held on their cells pending investigation.

He also noted that they are still on the ground though the situation is calm and everything is going normal at the school.

The management is set to hold the meeting to resolve the situation.
