Seven people arrested during UPDF recruitment in Sebei region over fake papers

Seven applicants were arrested on Monday during the recruitment of UPDF soldiers for possession of fake papers in Kapchorwa district.

According to Maj Isaac Oware, public Information Officer of the 3 Division/Team 7, the suspects are being held at Kapchorwa Police station for further investigation.

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) recruited sixty two (62) applicants in Sebei Sub region of eastern Uganda as part of the national wide exercise.

Colonel James Barigye Rukundo head of team seven for Karamoja and Sebei region declared that from the shortlisted applicants, 22 were successfully recruited from Kapchorwa, 22 from Kween district and 18 candidates for Bukwo making a total of 62 including 12 females in the exercise conducted at Kapchorwa recruitment center.

He highlighted that among the shortlisted candidates who turned up, the majority of them were disqualified on medical grounds, discrepancies on their academic transcripts and National identity cards among other perimeters. As he flagged off the successful candidates, the team leader noted that the exercise was fairly conducted, based on merit and the target was achieved.

The Resident District Commissioner for Kween ASP (Rtd) Hope Atuhaire and regional whip for Sebei sub region urged the recruits to remain committed and patriotic to enable them complete the training and serve their motherland – Uganda.

Hon Chebet Evelyne , Kapchorwa district Chairperson cautioned the recruits against desertion after joining the force. She appealed to the applicants who did not qualify not to lose hope as there are many opportunities still available for them to take advantage of both in the government and private sector. The whole day’s exercise was graced by senior district officials across the sub region.

The team will conduct a similar exercise for shortlisted applicants of Sironko district at Sironko district headquarters on Tuesday 9 Jul 24 and Bulambuli district on Wednesday 10 Jul 24 at Sironko district headquarters as a center.
