The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists and Dentists Union (KMPDU) Secretary General Davji Atellah stated that today they were marching fo the sake of Kenyans and the whole health docket.

On Thursday, July 4, Atellah had written to the Nairobi Regional Police Commander Bungei, requesting security for the doctors who would be protesting against the Ministry of Health headquarters starting Monday at 9 am, until all intern doctors received their letters as agreed with the ministry.

The hashtag #OccupyMOH has been trending as people gathered to protest against the Ministry of Health (MOH) near Uhuru park and at Afya House.

The Key issues demanded by the protesters are :

Post and Pay Interns as per the CBA: One of the primary demands of the protesters is the proper posting and payment of medical interns according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Take Healthcare Back to Kenyans: The protesters are also calling for the restoration of healthcare services to the people of Kenya.

Sack Incompetent Nakhumicha: The demand to sack the current CS for Health in Kenya points to dissatisfaction with her leadership by majority of Kenyans.

The numbers of protesters were higher than anticipated with healthcare workers, interns, and concerned citizens coming together to voice their grievances.
