Senator Okiyah Omtatah in a bold move yesterday promised to form a shadow cabinet that is going to keep the government in check.
“There shall be no vacuum in the opposition, I am going to form a shadow cabinet that is going to keep this government in check.” Omtatah posted with a video of himself giving more explanations to his move.
In the video Omtatah explained that the current situation in Kenya where the opposition government have joined the executive elected government creates an a opposition gap that should keep the government in check.
This is all if the cabinet is established after cabinet approval by the parliament.
Omtatah argues that if the Cabinet is passed Kenya will no longer have a presidential system where there is the majority in the government and minority in the opposition to check the government.
He further argues that following these occurrences there will be de facto parliamentary system where power emanates from the parliament which is a huge flaw for democracy.
His intentions to form a shadow government he says is to check the executive if the parliament passes the cabinet.
Omtatah says the current government does not listen to the cry of the young generation calling for change. He further states the current government is a self serving government.
Omtatah is yet to officially form the opposition government with him as the leader.
