In a heartwarming gesture of community support, Wagagai Coffee Farmers SACCO visited Kaserem HCIV to meet and support maternity in-patients ahead of its forthcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for Monday, 27th January 2025.
The SACCO team arrived with essential items, including detergents, smearing oil, sugar, bread, flasks, and drinks, as a way of giving back to the community. The midwife, Ms. Chelangat Patience, expressed her gratitude for the SACCO’s generosity towards the patients. She encouraged the cooperative to consider quarterly visits to all patients in the future and promised to encourage other staff members to join the SACCO to enhance their savings.
Wagagai Coffee Farmers SACCO, established in 2022 in Memnwo Village, Ngesi Parish, Kaserem Sub County, is a member-owned, member-used, and member-governed cooperative. It was founded by youth and women who faced challenges with financial inclusion. Currently, the SACCO has 300 members and offers services such as fixed and current savings, affordable loans, agency banking, and mobile money services.
As the SACCO prepares for its 3rd AGM, this visit highlights its commitment to supporting the community beyond financial services. With a vision to be the leading financial services provider for smallholder farmers in the Elgon region, the cooperative continues to strengthen its ties with its members and the wider community.
