Kapchorwa District – Kapchorwa District has confirmed one case of Mpox, according to the District Taskforce, which convened today to assess the situation. The confirmed patient, a resident of Keymelil Cell, Chemonges Square in Central Division, Kapchorwa Municipality, had been living alone before being diagnosed.
Additionally, another probable case has been identified in Chema, with samples submitted for further testing. Health officials indicate a high likelihood of Mpox in this case as well.
Kapchorwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner (DRDC) Sakajja Martin, addressing the taskforce meeting, emphasized that no Ebola cases have been reported in the district, but the health team remains on high alert. Both patients have been placed in isolation at Kapchorwa Main Hospital to prevent further spread of the virus.
Resolutions from the Taskforce Meeting
To curb the potential spread of the disease, the taskforce resolved to implement the following measures immediately:
1. Avoiding handshakes – The public is urged to refrain from physical contact to minimize transmission risks.
2. Handwashing facilities reinstated – All public places, including schools, churches, mosques, taxi parks, markets, hotels, banks, police stations, prisons, and courts, must have functional handwashing stations.
The meeting was chaired by DRDC Sakajja Martin and attended by key district officials, including the Deputy Mayor, DISO, representatives from the CAO’s office, District Health Officer (DHO), District Education Officer (DEO), Chief Finance Officer (CFO), District Health Educator (DHE), Principal Nursing Officer (PNO), the surveillance and Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) teams, media representatives, and other health workers.
Health authorities continue to monitor the situation and urge the public to remain vigilant by adhering to the recommended precautions.
