The UPDF engineering brigade has commenced work on a 5.2km road project connecting Teriet High Altitude training facility to the Kween near Mulunga. This interconnectivity road, funded by the government and implemented by the UPDF under the Ministry of Education, aims to improve access to markets for local farmers.
The road, which starts where the tarmac stops at Teriet, proceeds up to the Kween border and joins the newly opened road passing through the lower part, connecting to the Kwoti highway road.
Engineer Yusuf Kaya explains that the project involves shaping, widening, compacting, and marramming the road. Although initially scheduled for one to two months, the steep slope and rainy conditions may extend the completion date to three months.
This critical road has been impassable, especially during rainy seasons, hindering farmers’ access to markets. The main transportation mode has been donkeys, which is expensive, with each donkey carrying a sack of Irish potatoes at 10,000 shillings or more.
The completion of this project will bring relief to farmers and businessmen, boosting economic growth in the region.
