Murder Convict Jowie Irungu Set To Request Court To let Him Burry his Father

Murder convict Joseph Irungu, alias Jowie, is set to request the court to allow him to bury his father, Julius Irungu Mwangi, who passed away on June 15, 2024, after a long battle with cancer.

Jowie’s father was a strong supporter of his son, who was convicted of murdering Monica.Jowie ids currently serving a life sentence at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

Irungu’s request comes at a time when there are ongoing efforts to appeal his conviction. His lawyers have argued that there were several irregularities in the trial, including the failure to present crucial evidence and the involvement of a biased witness. The appeal is currently pending before the Court of Appeal.

In his petition, Irungu has requested that the court grant him permission to attend the funeral and bury his father, citing his right to dignity and respect for the dead.

The court is expected to make a decision on Irungu’s request in the coming days. If granted, it would be a rare exception for a convicted prisoner to be allowed to attend a funeral and bury a family member.
