MP Nandala, Sironko Engineer Clash Over Ghost road projects

Nathan Nandala – Mafabi, the Member of Parliament for Budadiri West constituency in Sironko District, clashed with the district engineer over allegations of ghost road projects.

The clash occurred on Wednesday during a monitoring exercise in his constituency.

The exercise involved district leaders, including the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Resident District Commissioner (RDC), District Police Commander (DPC), District Chairperson (LCV), district councilors, technocrats, and other stakeholders. The team sought to assess the state of roads in the district and see value for money.

During the inspection, MP Nandala expressed shock upon discovering that Makote Road in Bukhulo Sub-County, which he had personally funded for maintenance, was reportedly receiving annual funding from the district. He demanded an explanation on the whereabouts of the allocated funds.

Further investigations revealed that this Road, for which Nandala had purchased even culverts and supported rehabilitation efforts, was falsely included in the district’s road reports as one of the roads funded by the district.

In a heated exchange, Nandala confronted Assistant Engineer Nasusi Charles, who failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the apparent mismanagement of funds.

Shortly after the confrontation, Engineer Nasusi disappeared from the monitoring team, raising suspicions of further malpractice involving misrepresentation and ghost road works in the district.

Nandala assured residents that once the exercise is completed, the district engineering department would either vomit the funds they misappropriated for the roads or face arrest.

He emphasized that road infrastructure is vital, as a poor transport network hinders the movement of goods, access to health facilities for pregnant mothers, and other essential services.

The monitoring exercise in Budadiri West constituency continued, with plans to inspect roads in Budadiri East on Thursday to ensure accountability across the district.
