Kapchorwa, Uganda – Vendors in Kapchorwa Market who suffered significant losses due to a devastating fire have received financial assistance from the government and their area women member of Parliament.
Hon. Chemutai Phylis, the Woman MP for Kapchorwa District, delivered Shs 10 million from the Prime Minister’s Office and personally contributed Shs 1 million, bringing the total relief package to Shs 11 million. The funds are meant to support the affected traders by providing relief food as they recover from the tragic incident.
While addressing the vendors, Hon. Chemutai reassured them that the government has committed to constructing a modern market in Kapchorwa. This promise has sparked hope among the traders, many of whom had lost their businesses and were struggling to rebuild.
The vendors expressed gratitude for the financial assistance and the government’s pledge to improve their working conditions. “We had lost hope, but this support has given us the strength to start again,” said one of the affected traders.
The fire, which broke out recently, destroyed goods worth millions of shillings, leaving many traders without a source of income. The relief funds and the government’s commitment to building a modern market have been seen as a crucial step in restoring normalcy and improving the business environment in Kapchorwa.
