The Uganda Police Force has confirmed the arrest of Ugandan singer Vyroota on allegations of procuring an abortion. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan police Spokesperson, noted that the 21-year-old artist, best known for his hit song Maria, is accused of impregnating a young woman whose identity remains anonymous.
Reports indicate that the woman informed Vyroota about her pregnancy, expecting him to take responsibility. However, the singer allegedly expressed reluctance to accept fatherhood and proposed terminating the pregnancy. Unwilling to go along with this suggestion, the woman sought help from Vyroota’s manager, identified as Walugembe, hoping he would intervene.
Instead, the manager reportedly sided with Vyroota, and together, they allegedly convinced the woman to undergo the abortion. The procedure was successfully carried out, but the woman’s parents, upon discovering the incident, were outraged. They reported the matter to authorities, leading to the arrest of Vyroota and his manager. Both were detained at Kira Division Police Station as investigations commenced.
The case has drawn significant public attention, sparking debates about accountability and ethics. Police have pledged a thorough inquiry into the allegations, while the public awaits further updates on the unfolding events surrounding this high-profile arrest.
