Two Sironko Officials Arrested Over Alleged Extortion of PDM Beneficiaries

Police in Sironko District arrested Wodeya Emmanuel, the acting Community Development Officer (CDO) for Busiita Sub-county, and Magozowa, a parish chief of Bugibuji parish, were allegedly arrested on Friday over extortion from Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries.

They are accused of extorting money from Parish Development Model (PDM) beneficiaries, demanding sums ranging from Sh50,000 to Sh100,000. The suspects were found in possession of Sh300,000 in cash.

Allan Wanambwa, the Assistant Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Sironko, confirmed the arrests and stated that the suspects are currently being held at Sironko Central Police Station as investigations continue.

Wanambwa appreciated the community for their vigilance in reporting the incident. He emphasized that no money should be given for data, forms, or stationery, as these are provided by the government.

“PDM is a loan and should be free because beneficiaries will repay it. This is a revolving fund,” Wanambwa stated.

He also urged the community to continue reporting cases of extortion, adding that government workers like parish chiefs and CDOs are paid to serve and should not exploit the poor.

“We will keep arresting those involved until the program is successfully implemented in the district,” he added.
