Locals in Kapchorwa district were left in a somber mood on Thursday afternoon following a tragic accident that claimed three lives and left one person critically injured.
The accident happened in Kapenguria, Kapchorwa Municipality carrying cabbages registration number UBJ 034W Lost control.
According to an eye witness Rose Chebokurwo, was near the scene, the fuzo was being loaded with Cabbage which they were being picked from a nearby garden.
However when the stone which had been used to support the vehicle tyres, the vehicle started moving since it was over loaded with Cabbage hence losing control.
Rose further noted that, the vehicle also ran over a pedestrian who was waiting to board a motorcycle.
“There were four people in the vehicle, however one person jumped off the vehicle when it lost control. However it knocked down one person who was waiting to board a motorcycle and was severely injured and rushed to Mbale referral Hospital for further management,” she said.
The three who were killed on the spot, two were crushed beyond recognition.
The residents attributed the accident to failure of brakes although investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the tragedy.
