Kapchorwa district—Police in Kapchorwa district have revealed that the late Dismas Makilyo succumbed to manual Strangulation.
Speaking to the media, Sipi region police Spokesperson Fredmark Chesang noted that this was confirmed following the second postmortem on the deceased.
On September 30, 2024, Makilyo’s body was discovered lifeless in Chenwach cell inside Mt. Elgon National Park.
According to the earlier report, Makilyo a UWA ranger attached to Taryet detachment met his death while chasing a one Christopher Nabaya, who was found with timbers inside the National Park.
The report has indicated that, Nabaya had resisted arrest which turned into a violent confrontation which led to the death of the duo by suffocation and drowning.
However, this report wasn’t taken in by the clan and the family head Martin Mangusho, who happens to be the brother to the deceased.
According to Mangusho, he had alleged that his brother was struggled by his fellow rangers and dumped his body in the river to distort the evidence.
However, following the second postmortem done by the police surgeon Dr. Lubanzi, it was discovered that the deceased was beaten and struggled on the neck.
Following the report, two suspects (rangers) were arrested and were arraigned before the Kapchorwa Chief Magistrates Court on 15th October 2024 and were remanded until 01 November 2024 when they will appear again in court.
