Police in Kisoro district have arrested two suspects for allegedly killing their father over disputed bride price.
The suspects have been identified as Davis Harerimana, a bricklayer aged 20, and Keneth Tukamuhabwa, a student of Rutaka Community Secondary School, aged 20, and both residents of Rubuguri Town Council, Kisoro District.
The two have been accused of murdering their biological father Silver Mushabe, a resident of Igobero Village, Nombe Ward, on October 20, 2024.
It’s reported that, the trouble began after their father Mushabe, sold their family land at an unspecified amount of money. Following the sale, his son Harerimana, requested him to give him some money so as he could clear his wife’s bride price of whom they had partied ways due to uncleared pride price.
It’s alleged that, the father however refused completely to handover the money which enraged Harerimana, who sought for Tukamuhabwa and other colleagues’help.
The group started attacking the father with a machete leading to his death. They however picked the body and dumped it in a swamp.
Elly Maate, the savanna region police Spokesperson noted that the body was discovered on Wednesday evening dumped in the swamp.
Harerimana and Tukamuhabwa, the two suspects were arrested from their hideout and were taken to Kisoro police station pending investigation.
