Outrage has erupted in Kween District following the tragic death of Judah, a resident of Kapkwata, who was allegedly tortured by Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) officials. Judah was reportedly beaten and left critically injured before being rushed to Kapchorwa Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
This incident has drawn sharp condemnation from residents and local leaders, with calls for justice growing louder. Among those voicing their concerns is Kiplangat Jacob, also known as Chelogoi Motors, the aspiring member of Parliament Kween District who described the incident as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
“Friends, this is very unfortunate. Losing life through such an intentional means by UWA officials is extremely unacceptable,” Kiplangat said. “We surely need a permanent solution for this. A serious conversation and protest against these bandits should immediately take course. I beseech our leaders to take the lead in the quest for justice for the family.”
Chelogoi further questioned the government’s failure to address these recurring acts of violence. “How many citizens should die in order for the government to take action?” he asked, emphasizing the urgent need for accountability and intervention.
The incident is the latest in a string of reported clashes between UWA and local communities in the Sebei region, often arising from disputes over land and resources near Mt. Elgon National Park. Residents have long accused UWA officials of using excessive force and infringing on their rights, leading to growing mistrust and anger.
Protests are expected in the coming days as locals demand justice for Judah and call for an end to what they describe as unchecked brutality by UWA.
