NRM Leaders in Namisindwa Divided Over Appointment of Party Registrar

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) leadership in Namisindwa District is facing division over the recent appointment of Mr. Michael Mumya as the district party registrar.

Mr. Mumya, was appointed, sparking controversy within the party. A leaked letter from Namisindwa Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Juliet Namara Solome to Dr. Tanga Odoi, chairman of the NRM Electoral Commission, alleges that the appointment has led to insecurity in the district.

According to the letter, rumors of Mr. Mumya’s appointment surfaced on March 11, 2024, before the update of the party’s registrar. This prompted the District Security Committee, led by the RDC, to investigate the matter. The committee found that the NRM district leadership was unaware of Mr. Mumya’s appointment process.

Mr John Watibin, the District Executive Committee (DEC) member of Namisindwa, claimed that Mr Mumya is biased.

“We summoned Mr Mumya to appear to DEC and explain some issues raised by intending aspiring candidates in the district against him,”Mr Watibin said.

We asked the Chairperson NRM Electoral Commission, DR Tanga Odoi, to appoint another person instead of Mumya.

Michael Nalyanya, another DEC member, said the NRM Electoral commission didn’t consult the DEC during the appointment of Mumya.

HE said Mumya’s appointment is questionable.

He added that Mumya started meeting the Sub-county NRM administrators without involving the district.

Further investigations revealed that Mr. Mumya was allegedly fronted by Namisindwa County MP, Mr. Apollo Masika. However, Mr. Mumya defended his appointment, stating it was done legally.

“This is not an election period. I was appointed based on merit,” Mr. Mumya explained.

Mr. Masika echoed this sentiment, stating that Mr. Mumya was selected after meeting all the requirements, and urged calm within the party.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tanga Odoi acknowledged receiving the petition against Mr. Mumya and assured stakeholders that the matter would be resolved.

The Namisindwa District NRM Chairperson, Mr. Aramazani Wabuko, also called for patience, reminding members that the district is not currently in an election period.

The controversy highlights underlying tensions in the party’s administrative processes, with calls for transparency in such appointments.
