Garbage disaster hits kapchorwa Municipality, residents take upon themselves to clean

Kapchorwa Municipality residents have taken it upon themselves to clean the garbage pillings across the Municipality.

The residents headed by one of the well wishers Cherop Joel decided to take the bull by the horns and clean the town.

For months now, Kapchorwa Municipality residents have been crying of continued garbage pilling in different parts of the Municipality.

According to Cherop, he has been requesting for leadership of the Municipality to help them remove the rotting garbage pillings across the Municipality but no one could help.

“I have been making noise about the stinging garbage smell in the town but no one could listen. I decided to go around and mobilize my area people of Kaptany ward who accept to help out and we clean the garbage as we couldn’t wait any longer for the government,” Cherop added.

He added that whenever you turn right or left the garbage is everywhere yet they are thinking of the sports city.

“We are talking about the sports city yet the place is very dirty. Kapchorwa is known to be a tourism city. We are doing this for the love of kapchorwa Municipality,” he added.

He however argued kapchorwa Municipality residents to start managing wastes at home level since the municipal authority seems to have failed to manage the garbage.

“I would advise the residents to manage their rubbish at home level as we wait for the municipal authorities to prepare themselves. They should sort the garbage that can decompose and throw them in the banana plantation and for Kafera, they burn them,” he advised.

Several calls from the residents to the municipal authority to rectify the issue seems to have fallen on deaf ears of the authorities.

According to the sources, it’s because of tractor battery failure leading to continued garbage pilling in the city.
